  • Why Water is Wet… :

Why is water wet? Water is wet so that the fish and other ocean, lake and river creatures can move through it with fluent ease. Friction is not your friend when you are trying to move. We need to be able to drink. We need for boats not to sink. We need for our plumbing to work. This is why water is wet.

But, really, why is water wet? Water is wet because our sensations say it is so. We feel wetness. We get out of a pool and we are dripping, uh, you know. We take a shower and we’re, um, you know again.

The question of why is water wet cannot be answered with regular science methodology, but can be answered in Zen Physics. Water is wet because this is the nature of water. The nature of rock is to be hard. The nature of grass is to be green. The nature of water is to be wet. To take away from its true nature is to destroy what is and thus water is not water anymore. It may be ice, but it surely is not water. Water begets wetness. Wetness begets slipperiness. Slipperiness begets falling. Falling begets a long and painful hospital stay.

    • The Sky is Blue in Los Angeles :

The blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the air.

However, much of the shorter wavelength light is absorbed by the gas molecules. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue, especially in Los Angeles.

      • The Meaning of Life… :

The meaning of life constitutes a philosophical question concerning the purpose and significance of human existence. This concept can be expressed through a variety of related questions, such as Why are we here?, What’s life all about? and What is the meaning of it all? It has been the subject of much philosophical, scientific, and theological speculation throughout history. There have been a large number of answers to these questions from many different cultural and ideological backgrounds. Albert Camus observed, we humans are creatures who spend our lives trying to convince ourselves that our existence is not absurd. [1]

The meaning of life is deeply mixed with the philosophical and religious conceptions of existence, consciousness, and happiness, and touches on many other issues, such as symbolic meaning, ontology, value, purpose, ethics, good and evil, free will, conceptions of God, the existence of God, the soul and the afterlife. Scientific contributions are more indirect; by describing the empirical facts about the universe, science provides some context and sets parameters for conversations on related topics. An alternative, human-centric, and not a cosmic/religious approach is the question “What is the meaning of my life?” The value of the question pertaining to the purpose of life may be considered to be coincidal with the achievement of ultimate reality, if that is believed by one to exist.

"Brackets"
Balancing Acts
"Touch" Exercise
Standard
A rehearsal technique used to enhance performance by forcing the actors to break the fourth wall and reveal their inner thoughts for each section of dialog for their character. This technique helps the actors discover objectives and subtext.
A concentration game that wages a battle between one's equilibrium and trust of their peers.
This rehearsal technique forces the actors to phyically touch their scene partners in an "appropriate" manner for each section of text their character has in the scene. This technique encourages the actors to find subtleties in the script to enhance performance. This technique helps a scene become more interesting to the audience.
This is a the performance of a prepared scene before any particular rehearsal techniques have been applied. As this series continues from take to take, you will see clear improvement in performance as different rehearsal techniques are practiced.
